Can ChatGPT export to Word directly?
ChatGPT does not offer a Word export button for a conversation. A browser extension such as ChatShell creates the .docx file from the conversation in your browser.
Export the selected conversation
Open the ChatGPT conversation you want to save. Open ChatShell from its page control or the Chrome extension toolbar. Complete the first-use prompts if they appear, then choose Current Chat and DOCX. Set the document title if needed and select Export.
Open and check the Word file
Open the downloaded DOCX in Word. Compare the first and last messages with the original, then inspect headings, lists, tables, and code blocks. Adjust page breaks and table widths for the document you plan to share.
ChatShell supports converting formulas into Word math structures. Conversion can vary with the formula, so click into an equation and check both its appearance and editability before relying on it.
Keep attachments separate when needed
An exported conversation is not necessarily a complete copy of every uploaded attachment. Keep important source files alongside the DOCX and check any images you expect to see.
For several conversations
ChatShell Pro includes DOCX in batch export. Check the selected conversation count and export results, then review failed items. If the recipient only needs to read the final version, you may prefer a separate PDF after finishing your edits.
